I never had piggies as a child, they were one of the only pets i didn't own!
I seemed to have just about any small animal you could think of, rabbits, hamsters, cats, mice, budgies, canaries and finches, but no cavies.
My fondness for piggies started after i bought 2 sows for my sons. Daisy, an abby mix and Hazel a very small tricolour.
Daisy is very placid and friendly, while Hazel is a right bossy madam!
Soon after this, they were joined by another sow who was left on my doorstep in a basket with 3 baby rabbits. We popped her in with Daisy and Hazel and called her Damsel (as in 'distress'!).
Earlier this year (2007), i was asked to take on some foster pigs that had been rescued from a very bad animal hoarder, i have since re-homed 1 pair of sows but will hang on to the other pair, Smudge and Fudge.
Smudge and Fudge are ladies 'of a certain age'! i think they are about 4-5 years old and are sheltie crosses.
So, now i come to my 'posh' pigs. I currently have 4 Merino Boars, 2 Merino sows, a Himmy/Abby mix sow and a Himmy marked Coronet Boar.
Hopefully, i will have my first litter arriving early in 2008!
